
Vietnam has completed the main components of seven emergency flood-control projects in Hanoi, including five retention lakes with a combined capacity of nearly three million cubic meters, to strengthen water regulation and reduce flooding in flood-prone areas.
Local authorities finished the construction of the retention lakes last week. The new infrastructure aims to manage heavy rainfall more effectively. The system includes five lakes that can hold a total volume of 2.99 million cubic meters.
This addition to the capital’s drainage network is intended to lower water levels in low-lying districts during the rainy season. Officials say the facilities will help mitigate the risk of urban flooding, though the long-term maintenance schedule has not yet been released.
Separately, nearly 10,000 chickens at a farm in Thanh Hoa Province suffocated after a short circuit caused a power outage at the facility on Friday.
Fire safety training and food safety concerns
In Ho Chi Minh City, more than 100 children participated in a one-day firefighting experience program on Saturday. The event provided training on fire prevention, rescue techniques, and emergency response.
Dak Lak Province health officials concluded that 28 students at Hoang Viet School who developed symptoms of suspected food poisoning earlier this month were linked to rolled eggs. Food samples tested positive for Salmonella bacteria, prompting a review of food safety protocols at the school.

A recovery team from the Ho Chi Minh City High Command recovered twenty individual sets of remains believed to belong to Vietnamese war martyrs, along with seven sets of personal artifacts and one communal burial containing commingled remains at Le Thi Rieng Park on Saturday.
The total number of recovered remains has now reached 49 individual sets and one communal burial. The team continues its operations in various locations across the city.
